Sea World, Orlando

Architect - Peckham Guyton Albers & Viets, Inc.

Sea World, Orlando

The Challenge

Seaworld needed two large artificial skies to cover their ambitious Wild Arctic exhibit, a complex space that includes whale tanks, arctic terrain and a full-size reproduction of an Antarctic shipwreck. Realistically covering the space required a single structure that provided an arched ceiling above some areas and a spherical dome above others. When complete, the entire ceiling had to appear smooth and seamless.

The Solution

Spitz designed and manufactured fully suspended structures that combined spherical and cylindrical shapes. Made entirely of aluminum and stainless steel, the frames and panels were powder coated to withstand the harsh salt water environment.
